As if life on land in Costa Rica isn’t exotic enough, wait until you see what’s under the sea. If you are seeking a tropical underwater experience, look no further than a guided diving expedition. Charter a boat to dive Las Catalinas, a cluster of rock islands just a few kilometers off the coast. Playa Grande is but a hop, skip, and a jump away. Las Catalinas is famous for its assortment of rays: Manta Rays, Bat Rays, Spotted Eagle Rays, and Bullseye Stingrays.
Additionally, enjoy the thrill and rush of swimming with the occasional migratory schools of various fish and other local species. Easily described as spectacular, Las Catalinas promises abundant and various marine sea life with every dive. Submerse yourself in pristine Costa Rican waters, and experience diving unlike anywhere else in the world!
Equipment and tanks are available for rental through the local dive shops. Local hotels and concierges can put you in touch with them, or you can contact them directly. Check out the map on our sidebar to give you direction to their shop, but those who book dive charters through Pacific Coast get free shuttle service from their hotel to their boat in Playa Flamingo.
For safety and liability reasons, dive charters require participants to hold a dive certification. Fortunately, dive centers offer certification classes, and an intro to diving course which gives you the opportunity to learn the basics and go on two shallow water dives all in one day!
